GET CULTURED

Last December, a week before new year to be exact, I had a short trip to the historical city of Yogyakarta, Central Java.

I was amazed.

After three months in Jakarta, hanging out in hip cafes feels endless and dull. So when my mom inquired me about the trip, I immediately said LET'S GO! After arriving in Adisucipto airport, the driver took us for a cultural trip to the famous Prambanan temple, Keraton and of course, the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Borobudur temple. It was such a breathe of fresh air and well, some Gudeg here and there didn't hurt too (except for my growing belly). After being abroad for years, I am very sure this trip was the right call. It was a great way to feel connected to my roots. I hope I'll have the chance and time to visit more mind-blowing places here in Indonesia.

p.s: a trip to Yogyakarta won't be complete without a night visit to Malioboro, a major shopping street loaded with street food vendors, where I tried Kopi Joss Arang (coffee with charcoal). It sounds bizarre, but then charcoal seems to gain its popularity these days due to its aid for digestion plus it smells amazing!
